ELMER C. BECKNELL - 84, of 507 S. Draper Road, McHenry, formerly of Walnut, died Tuesday morning in McHenry Hospital following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Allen-Garland Funeral Home in Walnut with the Rev. Gene Gebhart, pastor of the First Christian Church of Walnut, officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Cemetery, Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in his memory to the Heart Fund.

Mr. Becknell was born Nov. 15, 1897 in Walnut, the son of Lewis and Lena (Schwab) Becknell. He was born and raised in the Walnut area prior to moving to McHenry. He was united in marriage to Helen Brooks and he farmed in the McHenry and Lake County area for 35 years prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of World War I.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; one daughter, Mrs. Lincoln (Shirley) Meyer of Libertyville; one son, Bill Becknell of Richmond; three step grandchildren; 13 grandchildren; one great grandchild and two sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
