GRANT LEROY DIR
Grant Leroy Dir was born in Fairfield Township,
Bureau County, Ill., Aug. 4, 1868, passed away four miles north of New
Bedford Feb. 8, 1941, at the age of 72 years, six months and two days. He
was the son of William and Sarah Hackett Dir. He grew to manhood and
assisted his father on the farm. Early in life he was converted to the
Christian faith during the ministry of J. E. Pierce. He was united in
marriage to Miss Ellen McDonald, Nov. 1, 1899. To this union were born five
children. His wife passed away Jan. 28, 1909, leaving four small children.
Under his tender care he kept them all together and made a home for them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one
brother and five sisters, one son, Wayne Leroy, died Oct. 13, 1926, and one
daughter, who passed away in infancy. He leaves to mourn his passing, three
sons, Leslie I., Glenn L. and Tracy F.; one grandson, Eugene, also one
sister, Mrs. Sam Meek, Tampico; several nieces and nephews and a host of
The funeral was held at the New Bedford Church
of Christ, Maynard Woudsma conducting, assisted by F. V. Kearns. The singing
was by Lee Renner, accompanied by Mrs. Sylvia Lindgren. The pallbearers were
James F. Johnson, Lowell Renner, M. M. Conkling, Fed Hansen, George Jacobsen
and Cecil Neahring. Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery.
