Hooppole: - Walter E. Gay, 91, former Hooppole resident, died early Sunday morning in the Hillcrest Nursing Home, Geneseo, where he had been a resident since 1976. Funeral services will be on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Gardner Funeral Chapel in Prophetstown with the Rev. Arthur Ferguson, pastor of the Zion United Methodist Church, Hooppole, will officiate. Burial will be in Hooppole Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Born on Nov. 7, 1891 in Plainfield, Ohio, the son of David and Mary Gay, he moved to Hooppole as a young man. On Nov. 28, 1915 he married Martha Grobes of Hooppole in Geneseo. They farmed in the Hooppole community until their retirement. He was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Margene) Clark, Sandwich; one son, Loren Gay, Gravois Mills, Mo., four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Gilbert, one brother and one sister.
