Catherine Gebhardt, 97, of Sterling, formerly of Ohio, Illinois, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Good Neighbor Care, Sterling, Illinois. Catherine was born February 20, 1913 in Ohio, Illinois, the daughter of Julius and Edith (Sibigtroth) Saltzman. She married Marion VanDeMark in 1938 and he died in 1960. She later married Sidney Gebhardt on July 6, 1968 and he died in 1970. She was a teacher for 40 years, and was a member of First Congregational Church of Rock Falls. Catherine was also a member of the Friendship Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in LaMoille, Illinois, and served as Past Worthy Matron. Catherine was a Past President of Ohio Women's Club. She was also a Past President of Sterling-Rock Falls Pilot Club and Yesteryears Questers. Catherine was also a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship; Rock Falls Garden Club, and a past member of the Sweet Adelines (Sinessippi Chapter). Catherine was also a Fish Volunteer. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (David) Dorway of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jeanine (Lynn) Pepper of Conroe, Texas; two sons, Larry (Marilyn) Gebhardt of Sterling, Illinois and Hubert Gebhardt of Big Ben, Wisconsin; two nieces, Kay Hobbs of Bettendorf, Iowa and Judy (Dick) Poffenberger of Tucson, Arizona. She was also survived by seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Edith (Sibigtroth) Saltzman; two husbands, Marion VanDeMark and Sidney Gebhardt, and a great niece, Leslie Baker. Visitation at the First Congregation Church of Rock Falls, Illinois, Tuesday, 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m.
