 J. B HARTLEY DEAD. J.B. Hartley, aged 83 years, died at his home in the southeast part of town last Thursday afternoon, from an attack of Bright's disease. The funeral services conducted by the Rev. J. M. White were held at the family residence at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon and interment made in the Greenwood Cemetery. The deceased had resided in Eureka and Greenwood County for a number of years and was well known as one of the county's foremost farmers. To the bereaved relatives are extended the heartfelt sympathies of all who knew him.

[My gg-grandfather was James B. Hartley (1818-1901) who was found living in Mineral Twp., Bureau Co., OH in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 Federal Census.  I think he arrived there before the birth of his first child in 1838 but I couldn’t locate him in the census records in 1840.  Early in 1875 he moved with most of his family to Eureka, Greenwood Co., KS.  He died there on July 18, 1901.]
