Walnut: - Mrs. Alberta Howitt, 88, resident at Fox Valley Nursing Center, South Elgin, formerly of Walnut, died Tuesday afternoon at St. Joseph's Hospital, Elgin. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at the Allen-Garland Funeral home, Walnut. The Rev. H. R. Sharton will officiate. Burial of the ashes will be at Walnut Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the Walnut Methodist Church.

Mrs. Howitt was born Aug. 6, 1894 in Oak Hill, Ky., the daughter of Edmond and Laura (Cundiff) Metcalfe. She worked in a department store in Chicago for several years and was a member of the AFL-CIO.

Survivors include one son, Robert N. Clark, Geneva; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one brother, Norman H. Metcalfe, Walnut.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, two brothers and one sister.
