Mrs. Rachel Johnson, Walnut, Dies Sunday

Walnut: - Mrs. Rachel Johnson, 88, Walnut, died Sunday afternoon at Community General Hospital where she had been admitted earlier in the day.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Ross Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Walnut Cemetery. Friends may visit from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in her memory.

Mrs. Johnson was born July 17, 1883 in Antrum, Ireland, the daughter of Hugh and Rachel McLaughlin McKeown. At the age of two, she came to the United States with her parents and lived near Peoria and Yates City. She and her family moved to Walnut in 1895. She married Henry Johnson Feb. 13, 1901 in Walnut and the couple farmed near Walnut for several years before moving to rural Wyanet. In 1947 they retired and moved to Walnut.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of Walnut United Methodist Church, Charity Chapter of Eastern Star and Past Matrons Club.

Survivors include one son, Alvin, and one daughter, Mrs. LeRoy (Lavonne) Larson, both of Walnut; five grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter Nettie Rudiger; two sisters and two brothers.
