OBITUARY

 

HAROLD JOVANOVIC


Big Rock -- Harold "Sonny" H. Jovanovic, 69, of Big Rock, formerly of Ottawa and Sandwich, died Friday, March 14, 1997, at St. Joseph's Medical in Belvidere.

He was born Sept. 4, 1927, in Ottawa to Anton and Amelia (Kresimer) Jovanovic.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and had worked at Libby Owens Glass in Ottawa. He had managed Bowl Rite Pro Shop and Marseilles Bowling Lane and opened S & L Pro Shop in Ottawa. He started Sonny's Custom Lettering in Sandwich and had owned Bowl n' Arrow Lanes in Waterman.

He was inducted to Ottawa's Bowling Hall of Fame in 1994 and had served as past president of the Ottawa Bowling Association. He was a member of the Midwest Bowling Association, CICBA and Central Illinois Classic Bowlers Association. He was an R#80 Traveling Bowling Team organizer. He was also an organize of the Midwest Masters Scratch League of Naperville and in 1979 was awarded the Classic Double's Sportsmanship in Aurora.

Survivors include his first wife Omi of Montana; his present wife, Patricia (Eckberg) of Big Rock; one son, Jay of California; two daughters, Diane Underdal of Montana and Tenielle Jovanovic of Big Rock; two step-sons, Cory and Christopher Thompson of California; five grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Visitation was held March 18 in Burkhart Funeral Home, Sandwich. Cremation will take place with a private family service.

Memorials may be directed to St. Anthony's Medical Center, Big Rock Fire and Rescue or the charity of the donor's choice.
