Mrs. Merrill Langford Dies In Hospital

Walnut: - Mrs. Merrill (Ellen) Langford, 72, of Walnut, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning at the Mercy Hospital, Davenport, Iowa, after being a patient since June 12.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from St. John's Catholic Church, Walnut, with the Rev. Dale R. Maloy officiating, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Tampico. Friends may call at the Ross Funeral home.

Ellen Burden was born Feb. 26, 1895 in Tampico, Bureau County, the daughter of George and Roseanne Wisley Burden. She taught rural schools in Bureau County before her marriage to Merrill Langford on Sept. 2, 1920, and has since made her home in Walnut. She was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church and St. John's Catholic Women.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, Vincent of Bettendorf, Iowa; Sgt. Jackson Langford in Vietnam; one daughter, Mrs. John (Roseanne) Fulton of Buffalo, N.Y.; 19 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Charles (Elizabeth) Miller of Harmon.

She was preceded by her parents, one sister, Mrs. Frank (Mary) O'Neil, seven brothers, Edward, Joseph, Thomas, Vincent, Richard, George and John Burden.
