Melvin J. Lockhart, 92, of Bartonville died at 3:28 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.

Born Oct. 26, 1910, in Zearing to Burdette and Lena Smith Lockhart, he married Daisy A. Erwin on Jan 17, 1936, in Lamar, Mo. She died Sept. 1, 1995, in East Peoria.

He also was preceded in death by one son, David, five brothers and one sister.
Surviving are one daughter, Anne (and James) Peacock of Morris; one brother, Walter, (and Ruby) of Seymour, Mo.; six grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 37 years, retiring in 1973.

He was a member of Bartonville United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Dartball League, served on the building committee and had served as a trustee.

He formerly served on the Bartonville Public School District 66 Board of Education and had served on the Peoria County Zoning Board of Appeals from 1978 to 1993.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at his church. The Rev. Carol Edman will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel and 30 minutes before services at the church. Burial will be in the Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

Memorials may be made to his church or to any charity.
