ALTA L. MAJOR - 86, of Walnut Nursing Home
in Walnut, died late Friday evening at the manor. Funeral services will be
held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Allen-Garland Funeral Home with Rev. James
O. Davis, pastor of the Walnut United Methodist Church officiating, with
burial in the Walnut Cemetery. There will be no visitation. A
memorial has been established in her memory to the Walnut Rescue Unit.
Miss Major was born June 1, 1893 in Walnut
Township, the daughter of Lewis and Margaret Millikan Major. She was a
school teacher for over 20 years and worked in the Walnut stores for several
years following her teaching. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary of
Walnut, the Eastern Start of Walnut, and the Walnut United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one brother, Parker Major of
Walnut and one sister, Mrs. Ethel Gordon of Marian, Iowa. She was preceded
in death by her parents and two brothers.
