Mrs. Howard Mathis Is Buried On Monday
Hooppole: - Funeral services were held
Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Zion EUB Church for Mrs. Howard (Maude)
Mathis, 67, who died Friday evening in the Community General Hospital,
The Rev. Kenneth Kortemeier and the Rev. Gus
Simpson officiated and burial was in the
Yorktown Cemetery. A male quartet consisting
of Mervin Harker, Clayton and Dwight Countryman and Arthur Zinser sang,
accompanied by Mrs. Clarence Miller at the organ. Pallbearers were Lowell
Houch, Warren Long, Arnold Meier, Wayne Simpson, Virgil Newlon and Hubert
Bracke. In charge of flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Countryman, Mr. and
Mrs. Roland Sommers and Mr. and Mrs. George Eshelman.
Maude Mathis was born May 11, 1886, the daughter
of Cornelius and Tille (Luther) Brants in Henry County. She received her
education in the Hooppole schools. She married Howard Mathis of Hooppole
Dec. 26, 1905. She was a member of the Home Bureau and Zion EUB Church.
Surviving is the husband and one son, Edison; three grandchildren, and one
brother, Charles Brants of Hooppole. She was preceded in death by one son,
Robert; one brother and one sister.
