Mrs. J. W. Miller Is Laid To Rest - Services At
New Bedford Tuesday Afternoon
The funeral of Mrs. Amanda J. Miller was held at
the New Bedford Church of Christ Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. B. F.
Butler officiating, assisted by Rev. Maynard Woudsma. The singing was by
Mrs. Hazel Hewitt, Mrs. Cora Bard, Will F. Steers and Lee Renner. The casket
bearers were Marvin Miller, Adrian Miller, Thorwald Nelsen, Ben Haas, Earl
Bishop and Fred McRoy. Burial was in the Greenville-Fairfield Cemetery.
Amanda Jane Smith, daughter of Samuel and Susan
Smith, was born in La Rue County, Ky, August 19 1864 and departed this life
Nov. 28, 1937, at the age of 73 years, three months and nine days. She was
married to John William Miller, September 7, 1885. He preceded her in death
December 31, 1919. To this union was born eight children: Edgar, deceased,
Mrs. Allie Huntly, Carlisle, Ill., Orville, Louisville, Ky., Mrs. Della
Thomas, Elgin, Nellie Warren, Louisville, Ky., Alfonso, deceased, Mary Haas,
Rock Falls, Everett, Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Lillian Bishop, Deer Grove.
Mrs. Miller lived in Yorktown and New Bedford
for many years during which time she made many friends and she considered it
a great pleasure to visit them. In recent years she has made her home in
Louisville, Ky., making her last trip to Illinois in May, 1937, coming back
to see her grandson graduated from high school. She contracted pneumonia
about 10 days before her death. She gave her life to God in her early years,
becoming a member of the Baptist Church at Mount Tabor, Ky. She lived a true
devout Christian life and her kindly sympathetic and helpful spirit made her
a host of friends who will greatly miss her.
