Princeton -- Orpha L. Murphy of Princeton died at 3:47 p.m. Wednesday, May
30, 2007, in Walnut Manor.
Born Oct. 25, 1910 in Ohio Township to Herbert E. and Maude D. (Wedding)
Wilson she married Harold E. Swanson July 13, 1942, in Palmyra, Mo. He died
in 1966. She then married Loren E. Murphy April 23, 1969, in Nashua, Iowa.
He died in 2003.
She graduated from Princeton High School in 1929 and Peru Nursing School in
1932. She was a surgical nurse at Perry Memorial Hospital for 14 years. She
was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Princeton.
Survivors include one son, Gary (Janet) Swanson of Princeton; one sister,
Bernice Nyberg of Peoria Heights, one sister-in-law, Ann Wilson of Peru; one
granddaughter, Holly Swanson of Princeton; one great-grandson, Kade Williams
at home; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Three brothers and five sisters preceded her in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Norberg Memorial Home. Pastor Fred
Schmidit officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Princeton Fire Department and Ambulance.
Orpha was buried next to her first husband
Harold Swanson and at her request the name on the double headstone was not
changed. It reads "Orpha Swanson". She said that Harold was "the love of her
life". Her second husband Loren Murphy is buried in the Murphy family plot
in Monmouth, Illinois.
