Philip Reed Porter


Philip Reed Porter, second son of James and Catherine Porter, was born in Fayettville, Franklin county, Pennsylvania, December 18, 1825 and died in Princeton, Ill., Dec. 27, 1917, aged 92 years and 9 days.

At the age of 14 years he moved with his parents to Belmont County, Ohio, remaining there until 1852, when they came to Bureau county. On June 24, 1856, he was united in marriage to Sarah C. Seaton. to them were born seven children, five sons and two daughters, two of whom have preceded him, one son dying at the age of three years and one, Arthur, in 1902. The funeral was held from the home, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. J. E. Fluck of the M. E. church, officiating. Burial was in the Forest Hill cemetery at Wyanet.

His wife, five children and two grandchikdren survive. They are: James S. of Stuart, Iowa; Ora H. of Portland Oregon; George L., Estella, and Katherine of Princeton; also one brother, James M. Porter of Melrose, Mass.; two sisters, Mrs. O. W. Triplett, Ogillie, Minn. and Mrs. Albert Jones of Kansas City, Missouri.
