Dean Scott Neponset Farmer Dies Wednesday
Dean Sidney Scott, 62, farmer and former owner-opera tor
of Neponset Soil Service, living at 108 E. Main St. Neponset, died at 3:15 p.m.
Wednesday, July 11 in the Moline Lutheran Hospital following an extended
illness.
He was born Oct. 28, 1916 in Neponset, the son of Robert A. and Bertha
Canham Scott. He was reared and educated in Neponset.
He married Carolyn Downend in 1937 in Toulon. She survives, with a son,
Alan of Neponset; two grandsons, Matthew and Timothy Scott , of Neponset; a
sister , Mrs. Irvan (Helen) Olsen of St. Petersburg, Fla., and a brother ,
Lawrence of Perry, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son in infancy.
Scott was a member and past president of the Neponset board of Education.
He had served 40 years on the Neponset Volunteer Fire Department and its board
of trustees. He had served on the Neponset Cemetery Board.
At his retirement in 1975, Scott had operated the Neponset Soil Service ten
years. He had also farmed in the Neponset area all his life.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Rux-Creamer-Lund Funeral
home, Kewanee.
Rev.
Owen Chandler of the Neponset United Methodist Church officiated.
Carol Gerrond was organist and Sue Norton the vocalist.
Hon orary pallbearers were Ward and Forrest Pratt,
Randall Shaner, Clarence Berry, Gale Holsclaw and Joe Van Wassenhove.
Active pallbearers were Danny Steffen, bob Bennett, Bob Stabler, Bart
Briggs, Dean Price and Charlie Thumma.
Burial was in Floral Hill Cemetery, Neponset.
