Wimmer Cemetery is located in
Auburn Township,
just outside of the small town of Auburn.
This cemetery is in very good condition!
Old stones have been replaced with new ones!

Interred at WIMMER CEMETERY,
Sangamon County, outside the town of Auburn, there are 3 Confederate Soldiers.
They are:
MARTIN B. HARRIS ........ Private; 9th Battery; Company C; 20th Battalion of the
Virginia Heavy Artillery, CSA (Confederate States of America) -- born March 5,
1839 in Virginia and died April 3, 1889 in Illinois
GEORGE WASHINGTON MERRILL ............ Private; 9th Battery of Company C; 20th
Battalion of the Virginia Heavy Artillery. Born 30 July 1838, in Virginia and
died Oct. 2, 1902 in Illinois
GEORGE ANTHONY RUCKER ........... Private; Company A of Wade's Regiment of
Virginia Local Defense -- also served in Company D of the 24th Virginia
Infantry, CSA --- born in Virginia in 1822 and died in Illinois in 1890. side
note: Private Rucker's father-in-law was Marin Baker Harris
