This cemetery was re-found in March 2007 after being "lost" for 40+ yrs. It's located in Tremont Twp., section 22.
Investigation notes: (March 10, 2007):
5 gravestones and 3 foot stones. All stones flat on the ground with evidence of 2 broken bases still planted in the ground.
Land that this family cemetery rests on is owned by Mr. & Mrs. Carl Sinn. The cemetery is on their land located at the cul-de-sac on Michel Rd, off Lake Windermere Rd & Ropp Lane. Permission to view stones an ABSOLUTE MUST and permission usually granted.
This cemetery is currently in despoiled condition. However, the Sinn family gave me assurances that they plan to restore it by adding a small fence and preserving the stones. As stipulated by Illinois State Law, they were informed by me that a DO NOT DIG order is in place around the graves.
They gave me assurances that their intentions were to respect the family plot and not interfer with possible human remains. They have been informed that a second cemetery ~~may~~ rest on their property and this being that of the Native Americans. No evidence has been found other than local legend. The Sinn family is aware of the procedures mandated by law in case bones should turn up. The office of the State Archaeologist in Springfield, IL, has been notified in the interest of Illinois history should they wish to pursue this "legend".
This investigation, along with photos taken by me, Steve Slaughter, will be shared with Mike Dickson of the Tazewell County Historical/Genealogical Society. It was by his kind sharing of information that this investigation was initiated.
