I am looking for information on my great grandparents. My great grandfather was William Paul Rankin sometimes shown as Rankins. He was born in Philadelphia April 6, 1852 and I have reason to believe he was illegitimate or an orphan. He shows up in the 1860 Illinois Census in Putnam Twp, Fulton County living with Horace and Mary Turner. I'm wondering if there might be any record of a guardianship. He married my great grandmother on February 4, 1875 in Table Grove, Illinois and then they moved to Rossville, Ks. in 1878. Her name was Mary Margaret Swearingen. Their daughter, Lana Pearl Rankin, was my grandmother and I would like to get her birth certificate. She told me she was born in Macomb but I found one site that said Adair, Il.
Thank you very much for any help you can give me. [posted on April 6, 2005]

I am have been researching a relative on mine and I am too far away in Northern Illinois to just drop in for research, if any one can help me I would appreciate it greatly. Simon Elliott was born in Northern Ireland about 1772. Died May 4, 1845 in Copperas Creek, Fulton County and is buried May 1845, Banner Cem. (formerly Utica), Fulton County, Illinois. Simon Elliott came over with parents and 7 other siblings. The ship wrecked off the coast of New Jersey and all but 3 brothers died, John, William, and Simon Elliott. Not much of any records found. Simon made a lot of money by buying government land at government prices, loaned money and became wealthy. He never married, lived and died a bachelor, with no children. His estate was settled by his nephew. Simon's estate took 10 years to settle, because so many people owed him money. He was 73 years old when he died. I have been trying to find out from where in Northern Ireland he came from. Don't' know if the death certificate, probate, will, or naturalization papers (if he went through the process) would have it in them. The ship: Faithful Steward sailed out of Londonderry, Ireland. If there were any record to tell his birth place I would be appreciated. I have been stuck for many years on this.
Thank you very much. [Posted April 13, 2005]

Looking for any information on Calvin Evans and family. Calvin Evans married Esther Kelly 17 Oct. 1837 in Fulton county. He is listed in the 1840 Federal census being between 30-40, 2 male children under age 5, one female between age 20-30. Calvin was in the manufacturing/trade industry. Calvin paid taxes in 1846 per tax records in Western IRAD archives. Also, Fulton County's will book has an entry dated September 1848 that Esther Evans, executrix, went to court and declared Calvin Evans died January 1848. There is no mention of how he died or where. Esther remarried 1856 to Ezra Johnson and they moved to Kansas by 1860.
Later census records of Calvin's 4 children indicate Calvin was born in New York. Family story says Calvin (or possibly his father) was a ship's master mechanic from Wales. What was he doing in Fulton county, Illinois from 1837 to 1848? Where is Calvin buried? Where in New York was he from ca 1800-1810? Who were his parents? His oldest son William John Evans was born 1839. The other three children were born after 1841. Either William had a twin brother who didn't survive or had an older brother that didn't survive.

I am searching for any information on Etta May INGRAM LONGWELL WAGNER, who was born in Plymouth, IL in 1879 to Uriah and Permelia (BOX) INGRAM. Etta "May" met Thomas LONGWELL of Maquon, Knox Co. IL around 1897, and were married in Washington Co IOWA that same year. They had one son, Charles Forrest LONGWELL in 1898.
Thomas and May were divorced in Maquon, Knox County, IL in 1900. Thomas was granted custody of the son Charles, and later moved to Galesburg, then to Moline, IL by 1915. The son, Charles, never saw his mother after the divorce.
We found records that May LONGWELL later marred C. H. WAGNER of Roseville in Monmouth, Warren, Co., IL in 1903. I am trying to find out where C. H. and May WAGNER may have moved after their marriage. From Newton INGRAM's obituary (May's brother) who died in 1944 in McDonough County, the article says that sister "May WAGNER" was living in Vermont, Fulton Co IL at the time of his death.
I have been unable to find record of May Wagner's death in any of the surrounding counties, nor can I find her in the census records, even though she was indeed living in Illinois - a distant elderly relative remembered going to her funeral in IL around 1955 - but cannot remember where.
We have been unable to trace any steps of May since 1903 and would love to find out more -- did she have any other children? Where is she buried? Thank you for your help!
P.S. - Her real full name is Louisa Etta "May" Ingram Longwell Wagner. But I never saw her use the Louisa, and rarely "Etta May". She is called "May" in her brothers 1944 obit. (posted November 22, 2006)

To it was attached a corn-mill for the purpose of grinding material for the distillery. Before the erection of the distillery, Thompson had carried on a brewery for a time near the same place. In both ventures he made money, and finally built a large flouring-mill on the site of the present Havana Mills, north of town, which was burned about 1864-65. He then erected Havana Mills, now owned by F.D. Coggeshall. About 1867-68, he sold these mills to James Hole and his son-in-law Thomas Jones, and built another large mill over the river..."
Family history written down in a family bible states:
"On what was then known as Thompson's Lake about 4 miles west of Havana, Illinois. This ancestor of mine had a business of considerable size, Mostly the manufacture of "Distilled Products." ... The aforementioned lake in Fulton County, Illinois, which bore his name, was some years ago purchased by Mr. Morton of the Morton Salt Co. of Chicago, who reclaimed it and at last hearing was a valuable farm."
Any information about the land, business, and family would be appreciated. Thank you. dt_education@yahoo.com

Livingston/Levingston families; cannot locate in 1850 though I know they were around Fulton County - any ideas???
John Livingston married Mary Bryant in 1797 Shelby Co., Kentucky - They moved to Vanderburgh Co, Indiana where their son Thomas Livingston (b. 1805 KY) married Kezia McNew (b 1807 KY), from there they moved to Fulton County, Illinois. John died in 1857 Fulton Co. and his wife Mary re-married to a John Alsop.
I also suspect that John L.had brothers Jesse and James. John's best friend Benjamin McNew married Rachel Bryant same day and place as John. And both families moved thru Indiana and Illinois together.

My greatgrandmother was left on the doorstep of James and Harriett Solomon. Her obituary said she was born March 12, 1864. They raised her as their own, but never adopted her(the papers were found in an old chest). My grandfather told my Mom, that his Aunt Sarah Marshall, offered to show him the house in Farmington, where his mother was born. Since the Solomons were farmers in Lee Twp, that would be on the other side of the county. Any help in finding her natural parents would be appreciated. Thanks! Clark@cattle-today.com

I am looking for the family of my great grandpa Albert Thompson Wallace. His obituary states he was born in Ohio in 1854 and when about two years old, he with his parents, David and Mary Wallace, moved to Fulton County, Illinois where he grew to manhood. On April 3 1895 he was married to Sarah Elizabeth Jennings, and about two years later they with their son Elmer, moved to Marion County, Iowa. They had four children, Elmer, Effie, Bertha, and Floyd. Then it says, "Besides these he leaves to mourn him two daughters". No one in our family ever heard of two other children besides Elmer, Effie, Bertha, and Floyd, so now we are curious whether Albert had been married before marrying Sarah Jennings. He was 41 years old when they married, so it is possible. Does anyone know if Albert had another marriage and two children born in Illinois? I'm also looking for any information at all on his parents, David and Mary (Spry) Wallace. David is a dead end. jobiijoe@yahoo.com.

I am looking for more information about Vodicia (Hathaway) Blanchard who died of a liver complaint according to the 1850 mortality schedule for Orion Twp. Fulton Co. IL. She was wife of Ira Blanchard who lived in Brimfield, Peoria Co. They had four daughters: Clarissa b. abt 1840; Mary T. b. abt. 1842; Elizabeth b. abt 1844; Matilda W. born 19 JAN 1843 in Brunswick, IL; Sarah Ellen b. abt 1848. It seems strange that little Sarah was taken in by the Hathaways rather than her own father and siblings, according to the 1850 census. Why was Vodicia in Orion Twp? Where was she buried? Why did the Hathaways take Sarah?
