1.  David LOUK1 was born on 19 Apr 1789 in New York.2,3  He appeared on the census in 1810 in Cambria, Niagara County, New York.4  The 1810 census shows name as D. Louk, with three adult males and no females in the family unit.  He served in the military in 1812 in New York.5  He appeared on the census in 1820 in Stafford Township, Genesee County, New York.6  The 1820 census shows the surname as Louck, one boy and one girl in family unit.  He appeared on the census in 1830 in Le Roy Township, Genesee County, New York.7  The surname is Louck in the 1830 census, and shows three boys and three girls; the ages of children and parents are compatible with other later information, but indicate that there should be two boys and four girls. He resided Perrysburg in 1833 in Cattaraugus County, New York.8  Owner of improved land having buildings, lot 28, $100.  He appeared on the census in 1840 in Fulton County, Illinois.9  He was buried in 1845 in Virgil Cemetery, Lee Township, Fulton County, Illinois.5  He died on 20 Jun 1845 in McDonough County, Illinois.5  David Louk enlisted 29 Jun 1812, as a private in Captain Rufus Hart's Company, Churchill's regiment (164th regiment) of the New York Militia. He was discharged 5 Jan 1814. The discharge document says that he was wounded 30 Dec 1813 in the defense of Buffalo. David applied for a pension on 31 May 1814 because of the bullet wound received in his shoulder. He was placed on the pension roll on 2 July 1819, and the pension of four dollars per month with arrears (from 6 Jan 1814) was received. A list of New York pensioners, dated 1835, shows that his annual allowance was $48, and that he had then received a total of $967.74. As a resident of Fulton County, Illinois, he was also awarded $70.00 (date unknown, claim #14,427, Page 300, "Index of Awards on Claims of the Soldiers of the War of 1812"). The Fulton County Atlas states that David and his sons Benjamin F. and Jeremiah (Jefferson?) arrived in Illinois in 1838. In the 1840 U.S. census for Illinois, David Louk was found living in Fulton County, no Township listed, page 209. David and Clarry Louk are buried in Virgil Cemetery, in Lee Township.

The following pension application is in the National Archives: State of New York; Genesee County. David Louk being duly sworn according to law doth depose and say that he was in the service of the United States at the time and place mentioned in the two foregoing affidavits and was then and there wounded in his left shoulder, as he believes by a musket ball. That the ball entered near the center of his shoulder blade and lies near his back bone. By means of which wound he the deponent is not now able to perform manual labor and that exercise of any (not legible) puts him in great pain owing as he believes to the friction of the ball which must have been rendered ragged in passing the bones of his shoulder--and further the deponent says he is a farmer by profession, is now 30 years of age and has a family to provide for. .... Sworn and subscribed this 31st day of May, A. D. 1814. (signature - David Louk). Note that this document indicates that David was born in 1784 rather than 1789.
