ALEXANDER MARSHALL was born in Fairfield District, near Winnsboro, South Carolina, in the year 1787. He entered the army in the war of 1812, and was stationed at Charleston. In 1816 he married Mary McMillan, of Kershaw, South Carolina

. In 1836 he visited the west, and purchased the S. E. I- of Sec. 16. T. 9, R 5, Henderson county, whither he brought his family the next year, and where he departed this life April 22, 1864. He was a man of much worth, and was almost continuously in offices of trust. Both he and his wife were members of the United Presbyterian church.
