ANDREW CAROTHERS, Sr., came to Illinois from Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, where, with his brother John, he had been reared under guardians. He bought, in 1840. the N. E. of Sec. 2, T. 9, R 5, Henderson county, and afterward the S. E. 4 also. He built his residence on the former, and lived there until his death, in. 1848. He was twice married, first to Mary Hays, afterward to Mary Robison. He entered the army in the war of 1812. In religion he held to the creed of the Seceder church.
