Carolina Nolen

Stronghurst, Oct. 26.—Funeral services of Mrs. William Nolen, who passed away at the family home south of Stronghurst on Friday, Oct. 23, were held from the Lutheran church on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Pastor Rev . Edward Eklof, and were largely attended.

Comforting songs were sung by Miss Helen Swedeland, Mrs. Sam Howell, Miss Francis Lund, Miss Esther Lind, Carl A. Johnson, Elmer Swedeland, Harold Malmburg, ,Edward Eklof, with Miss Mabel Swanson, pianist. '. .

Relatives and friends from Macomb, Kirkwood, Monmouth.,Burlington; Raritan and the surrounding community were present in great number, while a profusion of beautiful flowers further expressed the tribute of a long friendship.

Funeral director Mellor was in arge and burial was in the fam­ ily plot in the local cemetery. Pall­bearers were Gust Swanson,Frank Gustafson, Carl Jacobson, Herman Carlson,Charley Swanson, Olaf Olson.

Carolina Charlotta Anderson was born March 28, 1853 in Östergötland Sweden. She came to this country May 3, 1880, her first home being in Kirwood Ill. She was united in marriage to William .Nolen, Feb. 23, 1881. Mr. and Mrs. Nolen lived in Kirkwood vicinity, moving to a farm one a three-fourths miles west of Raritan for a time, again at Kirkwood,, and later when the John Bowen farm three miles south of Stronghurst was sold thirty years ago they established the home, which has since been maintained. Here the parents suffered the loss of their daughters Ruth, Mrs. Mabel Pearson, Mrs. Alfen Wetterling and in 1924 the father and husband was called home.

The youngest son Walter has ever been in the home with the !mother, and with his wife and other relatives made her declining years just as comfortable as loving hands could do. On Oct. 26, 1930, a fall causing a fractured hip made a four and a half months Hospital confinement necessary, the last days however being spent in a wheel chair. Early Friday morning while at breakfast the call came.

Mrs. Nolen was confirmed in Sweden, at an early age, was first a member of the Biggsville, and later the Stronghurst Lutheran church.. As a member Of the Dorcas society her work was particularly faithful, having been its president for some six years.

Surviving. are. the daughter M. Aida Pearson, sons Algert and Walter Nolan, .grandchildren Loren and Pauline Pearson, Wendell and Mildred Wetterling, Harold, Lucille, Danis and Margaret.Mrs. Nolen was the last of a family of six brothers and sisters. Her passing being the last link of the chain.
