SWANSON S. ESSEX , 77, a retired carpenter and contractor, died at 5:30 a.m. at home. He had suffered a stroke in 1932, only partially recovering, with this last illness from November, 1934.
He was born at Oquawka Oct. 3, 1857 . His parents were Cambelland Emzy Essex Lived in this community all his life; president of The Western Loan and Building association of Oquawka for 25 years; served on the school and village boards, taking an active part in community affairs. Married Margaret Hesson Sept. 21, 1876 . His wife and six children survive. One child died in infancy, and one son, Freddied June, 1923.
Surviving sons are Clyde , Monmouth and Clifford, Oquawka; daughters are Mrs. Eva Lorenz, Chicago, Mrs Effie Noble, Oquawka, Mrs. Emma Morey, Stronghurst, and Mrs. VernaLouk, Keithsburg. Survivors also include 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the home Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. Charles Holmesof Rozetta in charge. Burial will be in Oquawka cemetery.
