ALBERT HOLKE, 63, DIES IN HOSPITAL; NATIVE OF EDFORD HAS BEEN ASSESSOR 27 YEARS;
Albert Holke, 63 former Edford township assessor and for the last five years a resident of Geneseo, died Friday morning, Oct 8, at the Illinois Research Hospital in Chicago. Mr. Holke had been ill for three weeks and had undergone a major operation in the Chicago Hospital two weeks before his death.
Mr. Holke was the son of Julius and Augusta Rahn Holke, born May 19, 1885 in Edford Township . He received his education there and married Irene Frels, Feb 3, 1915 . He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran church in Edford Township where he was active in the church and served as an elder for many years. He had been an assessor of Edford Township for 27 years for which he was well known. Five years ago he retired for farming and moved his family to 628 South State street in Geneseo.
He is survived by his wife, a son Kenneth; and two brothers, Emil of Colona township and Fred of Geneseo; two grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Stenzel of Moline . Funeral services were held at 1:30 Monday afternoon at the Myers funeral home and at the Concordia Lutheran church in Geneseo at 2 p.m. The Rev. Carl Hilgendorf of St. John’s church officiated at the service. Burial was held in Oakwood cemetery. Pallbearers were Alfred and Will Loenser, Rheinhold Hamman, Julius Firch, George Wildermuth and Henry Maeltzer.
