MRS. JULIUS HOLKE, WELL KNOWN GENESEO RESIDENT IS CLAIMED BY DEATH
Mrs. Julius Holke a long and respected resident of this city passed away at her home Monday evening, Jan 16, 1928, at 8:15 following a stroke of paralysis on Saturday morning January 14.
Augusta Rahn Holke was born on August 13, 1854 , in Germany and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick. On May 2, 1873 at the age of 19 years she came to America with her brother Ferdinand Rahn. Her parents and a sister followed later and settled in Edford township. On Oct 30, 1875 , she was married to Julius Holke and the resided on a farm in Edford Township until twenty-two years ago when they retired and moved to Geneseo, purchasing a home on West North Street , where she has always resided. To this union were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy. Her husband preceded her in death eight years ago.
The children who survive are Emil Holke, Colona Township ; Mrs. Emma Stenzel, Moline ; Fred and Henry Holke, Geneseo and Albert Holke, Edford Township . There also survive seven grandchildren, a brother Ferdinand Rahn of Geneseo, and a sister Miss Ernestine Rahn of Davenport Iowa .
Mrs. Holke during her entire life was a devout member of the Lutheran church. Her kindly disposition afforded her the friendship of a host of friends. She labored diligently during her earlier days of her life, but of recent years enjoyed her home, her friends and most of all her children, who are all successfully established in life.
Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o’clock at the Concordia Lutheran Church , Rev. Chr. Bergen officiating. The remains were laid to rest beside the husband in Oakwood cemetery. The pallbearers were Adolph Loenser, Ferdinand Hopke, Edward Klavohn, William Firch, Fred Firch, and Herman Miller. Among those from out of town present at the last rites were three nieces of the deceased, Mrs. George Rengens and Mrs. August Eves of St Louis Mo. , and Mrs. Emil Masengarb of Omaha Neb.
