Welcome to Henry County! I'm your host Wini Caudell. Henry County is a county rich in history with many emigrants settling here in hopes of a better life for them and their children. I hope to put a lot of information on this site for everyone to find. It's very important to find your roots, without knowing your past and where you came from there will always that question in your life. Henry County is located in west-central Illinois south of Interstate 80 and I-74 It was formed in 1825 out of Fulton County and named for Patrick Henry, statesman. It's known for it's rich farm land and is dotted with many small towns. The first town was Andover founded in 1835 by Rev. Ithamar Pillsbury, a Presbyterian minister who would later become a minister in Milan, Illinois. Population: 50,552 County Seat: Cambridge

***MEETING*** March 22 - We will meet at 1:30pm in the second floor meeting room of the Kewanee Public Library. Betty Logsdon of Neponset will be the presenter and she will give a program on the holdings of the Neponset Historical Society. She will provide a list of available family genealogies, obituaries and the library holdings of genealogical interest to our members.
We've started a tombstone project at Illinois Ancestors http://www.illinoisancestors.org/cemphotos/main.php This website is designed to allow researchers to add their photos automatically! Also, looking for volunteer's with a digital camera to photograph the cemetery gravestones in Henry County. I'd sure appreciate the help!
