The following list, lists some of the original Bishop Hill Colonists. There is no complete list as there were thousands of colonists who arrived between 1846 and 1861. A primary source by way of a written record has yet to surface (Many of the original colonists died that first winter and documents of who died doesn't exist) but some later records do.

This list starts with Olof Krans' historic paintings that do exist and is housed for public display in Bishop Hill. This building is the only folk art museum dedicated just to one artist in the U.S.A. Names marked with an * denotes that a Krans portrait was made and is documented in George Swank's book on Olof Krans.

• Names marked with (1) indicates a band walked to Bishop Hill from Ohio in 1847.

• Names marked with (2) indicates the colonist was a trustee during the leadership of Jonas Olson after Eric Janson's death in 1850.
