PETER KUCHIRKA

Peter Kuchirka, 76, of Geneseo died Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at his home. Funeral services will be held at Myers Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, and Geneseo at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 26. Dr. Roger Perry will officiate. Burial will be in North Cemetery , Geneseo will military rites by Shearer Post #350 American Legion, where he was a member. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, June 25 at Myers Chapel. Memorials may be made to Quad City Diabetes Association.
Mr. Kuchirka was born July 11, 1921 in Allentown , Pennsylvania , the son of Jacob and Pelagia Kuchirka. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II. He married Florence Myers on March 26, 1945 in New York , New York . He was employed for several years at International Harvester in East Moline and served as president of the United Auto Workers (U.A.W.) Local 1304 for several years. Later he served as Sub-Regional Director for the U.A.W. Region 4 until his retirement in 1986. He was very active in Democratic politics in the Quad City area.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty and Harold Epperson of Ophiem and Dr. Mary Ann Fensterbusch of Geneseo; a son and daughter-in-law, Peter Jacob and Carolee Kuchirka of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Colleen Sherbeyn and her husband Scott of Geneseo; William Powell II of Moline; Aaron Powell of Rock Island; great grandchildren Jason Jenkins and Dallas Garrison. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
