Union Cemetery

Union-Shragel Cemetery

The Union-Shragel Cemetery is located in Knox Township in the southeast quarter of Section 4. As you are traveling on County Highway 7 on the section of the road going south, the cemetery is on the west side, just before the highway turns west going towards Galesburg. This cemetery has only two stones standing with several stones that have fallen down and others that are buried. Many thanks to the owner, Bob Shragel, for his help and kindness!

This cemetery was "walked" by J. Crandell on July 24, 2004. Listed below are the remaining stones and a few that are buried. Information about the buried stones was generously contributed by Bob Shragel. Some of the families not listed that are buried in this cemetery are the Millers, Collins, Fuqua, Lyons, Gose, Maxey, Day, Spooner, House and Ingram. * Grizzillia Smith was listed in the 1850 Census (roll M432-113, page 314) as living in Knox Township with Nancy Gose (also buried in this cemetery) and her family. It also states that Grazilla (spelling on the census) was 73 years of age and born in North Carolina. Nancy Gose was also born in North Carolina and her age was listed as 53 in the 1850 census.
