Geo Davey appeared before me and made affidavit that he is the owner of certain sheep and that on the 23rd day of June had one sheep killed by dogs and the owner of said dogs or dog so ??? and he had received no compensation for damages so sustained and that he has sustained damages to the amount of $3.00.
Came docketed and listening of Fred Lane and Jno Chatman ? holders of said Town of Salem was heard in open court as to the number and value of the sheep so killed.
And then upon it is considered by the court that the said Geo Davey has sustained damages by reason of the killing of one sheep to the amount of $3.00 and cost of this suit the 26th day of June 1897.

1897 August 24 Affidavit of Horace G. Serles a competent person upon oath against William Baines for an assault with a deadly weapon. Committed upon him the said Horace G. Serles by striking him with an axe.
Warrant issued for the arrest of the said Willaim Baines and placed in the hands of N. Knable, constable to serve. Warrant returned on the 28th day of August 1897 by constable N. Knable executed by arresting said William Baines who is brought before said P.M. The accused pleads guilty and waives a jury. H. G. Serles and David Tuckey sworn on the part of the People as witnesses. Upon hearing the evidence it is adjudged by the court that the accused Willaim Baines is guilty of assault and battery and that he should pay a fine of $3.00 and cost of this suit the 25th day of August 1897.
