Miss Ida Kilpatrick left yesterday afternoon to spend the winter in San Diego, California.

Mrs. Dugger left today for Earlham, Iowa, to visit with her son, Albert.

Mr. Robeson, a lawyer of Eureka, stopped in this city yesterday between trains on his way to Kansas City to visit his brother Robert Robeson.

Mrs. Baymiller is attending the reunion of the 78th Regiment at Plymouth today.

Grace Briner, an old student of Hedding College, is visiting in this city. Miss Briner's sister will attend Hedding this year.

T. C. Smith was greatly surprised when he went home yesterday to dinner to find two of his nieces there. They were Mrs. Charles Dumar of Eden, Illinois, and Miss Myrtle Sholl, superintendent in the hospital Bartonville Asylum. They expect to visit a few days here.

Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Smith entertained Rev. Buckey and family yesterday at dinner.

Miss Bertie Tribbet accepted a position as a office girl in Dr. Ryan's office in Galesburg.

C. G. Fuller is reported very low this morning.

A. Brokham has returned from a business trip to southern points.

H. M. Reece of Hermon was a business caller in this city yesterday.

Five of the high school girls surprised Miss Eva Enlow last night at her room at Mrs. Gray's in honor of her seventeenth birthday. An enjoyable time is reported.

Will Barton, who for years was in the insurance business at this place, but six or eight months ago moved to Macomb, has now become a Benedict; still we have not been able to learn the exact date, but he has been seen by several of our citizens with a fine looking lady whom he now calls his wife.

Guy Hardy of Galesburg is a business caller in this city today.

John Mohattan left last night for a visit in St. Augustine.

The Misses Sarah Ralston and Clara Rowles were busy as callers in Galesburg yesterday.

A. E. Cumming and wife of Galva were visiting friends here yesterday. They came down in their automobile.

Pete Mohattan left this morning to take a position with a bridge gang out of Galesburg.

Will Taylor and Charles Lutz left today for St. David, Illinois, to do some work for the Churchhill Hardware Company.

Charles McCord and wife of Pierre, S.D., came yesterday to spend the winter with Mr. McCord's grandmother, Mrs. Henry McCord.

Ferg Rafferty and Bill Tom Talley and John Richardson went fishing on Spoon River last night.

Pete Melvin is contemplating going in the poultry business sometime in the near future.

Ralph Scott made a business trip to Elmwood last evening.

Mrs. George Richie and daughter Madeline went to Maquon last evening to make a short visit with relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. George Foote and son who have been visiting in Stronghurst have come here for a visit at home of P. W. Sherman before returning to their home in Chillicothe.

Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Caine and son Millard spent the day yesterday in Monmouth.

Arthur Smith went to Gilson yesterday to visit his sister.

Miss Helen Givens arrived here Monday night from St. Louis to resume her school duties at St. Mary's.

C. M. Weeks left last evening on a business trip to Brown's Valley, Minnesota.

Rev. and Mrs. F. J. Dunn went to Lexington yesterday to attend the conference meeting.

Mr. and Mrs. Bergstrom and son of Gibson City who have been visiting at the home of Fred Gottrick, Jr., for several days returned home yesterday.

Miss Nina Head left yesterday for a week's visit with Mrs. F. E. Swanson in Chicago.

Mrs. Rhea went to Yates City yesterday to visit with friends for a short time.

J. M. Lewis went to Maquon last evening on business.

Mileham Ballow went to Elmwood last evening for a brief visit with his sister before going to his new home in Toulon.

W. W. McBride left last evening on a business trip to Indianapolis, Indiana.

Miss Lillian Stokes of Monmouth has been visiting with friends at St. Mary's this week.

R. W. Ranney was a business visitor in Peoria today.

Miss Anna Botsford is spending a few days in Monmouth.

Mrs. Harry Davis is spending several days in Moline.

Lee Shoop was attending to matters of business in Peoria today.

Mrs. J. P. O'Brien has returned from a ten days' visit with relatives and friends at Sioux City, Iowa.

Miss Elsie Cooper of Pittsburgh, Pa., has returned and will continue her school duties at St. Mary's.

Mrs. A. Bainter has gone to Mystic and Centerville, Iowa, for a visit with relatives.

Messrs. Oris Oblander and Ralph Morscher were Monmouth callers today.

Mrs. L. W. Peterson and daughter, Miss Edith of Wataga where shoppers in the city today.

Mrs. F. F. Park and Mrs. F. E. Brown have returned from Chicago after a few days' visit.

Miss Ruth Duff came Thursday evening for a several days' visit with her mother and sister, leaving again Monday noon.

Mrs. W. G. Matthews left this morning for her home in Chicago after spending the summer at the home of her mother, Mrs. McAuley of South Academy street.

Mrs. Clendenin and Mrs. Henisee of South Academy Street, have returned from the A. T. P. exposition and visits in Nevada, California and Canada, and report a very enjoyable trip.

Mr. W. A. Gebhart and mother, Mrs. F. A. Gebhart left this morning for Truro, Iowa, to attend the funeral of Chauncy, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard R. Gebhart, who were former residents of the city.

Judge J. D. Welsh spent the day in Monmouth on matters relating to the litigation for right of way for the Rock Island Southern extension north. He represents the company in this litigation.

Miss Carolyn Lewis left Sunday for Washington D.C., where she will begin rehearsals with the Hungarian band and prepare for her season's work. Miss Lewis' friends wish her all success.

A note received from Dr. Lambert tells us that he is now enjoying southern California. He is making Los Angeles his stopping place on enjoying to its fullest the scenery of the surrounding country. He mentions meeting many acquaintances. In company with Dr. E. C. Stone, Dr. Lambert will travel to El Paso and make a short trip into Mexico and Texas.

B. F. Johnson and family visited the family of Enoch Sherman in Fairview township on Sunday.

Your Scribes family received a wedding card from Amos Short and wife mailed at St. Paul, Minnesota. They will be at home to their friends at Farmington, Illinois, after November 1, 1909.

Uncle Billy Harden has just put a new heating plant under his house. J. C. Hoxworth is putting a new heater in his new home.

Orvie Arnold and family of Orange township were guests of D. I. Foster and family on Sunday.

Elmer Long of Yates City is plastering the fine house G. A. Taylor has built in Rapatee.

The trustees of Rapatee Church met a few days since and owing to the demand of our people they have changed their original plans concerning the church repairs. The present plan is to raise the building, put a wall under it, plaster sides and ceiling of cellar, put a furnace under it, paint outside and in and put down concrete walks in front of the building.

Mrs. A. L. Whited and Miss Catherine Calihan of Pekin were the guests of the Whited family last week.

George Tasker visited Galesburg on Friday.

Mrs. M. E. Holloway, Mrs. A. E. Donason and daughter, Waneta, visited the family of J. E. Holloway near Gilson on Saturday.

B. H. Foster, Homer Foster and F. H. Woods visited London Mills on Saturday.

R. P. Foster visited London Mills on Saturday.

Tobias Woods visited Peoria on Saturday.

Mrs. C. Turner was a Peoria visitor Saturday.

Mrs. Fanny Kay Foster of Charlton, Iowa, is visiting relatives in this locality.

A. O. Foster, wife, and son Claude, spent Sunday in Salem township.

Jesse Hilliard was a Peoria visitor on Saturday.

Messrs. Burson and Reynolds returned to Galesburg and Knoxville respectively last Saturday evening.

Not in twenty years has there been as many changes in farm tenants in this locality as will occur March 1st, 1910. The following farmings will lose their present tenants:Two Walter farms, east Simkins place, John Door and I. H. Cope farms; L. W. Shreeves, R. H. Harper, J. M. Foster, Samuel Hoagland and Margaret Boden farms and the J. C. Hoxworth farm. May all the new tenants prosper is one wish. The farmers are having a very successful time at present.

George Tasker and family of Fairview township were visiting at the home of George Yeoman on Sunday.

Guy Williamson and family spent Sunday at Hermon.

George Eliott and wife visited at the home of Art Lautorette near Ellisville on Sunday.

Copley coal bank here is where you can get treated right. D. L. Foster began his twenty-seventh year in the coal business at Rapatee on Monday morning of this week.

Rev. W. E. Kettlekamp was greeted by a fair sized congregation at Rapatee on the first Sunday of the conference year. The Epworth League will begin again in the near future.

John Pheffer of Fairview visited in Peoria and Rapatee on Monday.

J. H. Ray and family visited Douglas on Sunday.

Mrs. Viola Foster and Mrs. A. E. Donason visited the county seat on Monday.

J. H. Ray visited Persifer township on Monday.

Miss Bryan the nurse from Galesburg, is visiting Maquon township friends.

J. L. Cowman and Emory McWilliams, both of Maquon, visited Rapatee on Monday.

The earthquake shock was plainly felt at Rapatee about four o'clock on Monday morning.

Tuesday, September 28

Charles Sloan of Etherly spent last Wednesday in Williamsfield.

R. E. Dorland of Decatur made a short visit here last week.

Messrs. Little and Hodgman of the National Clothing Company of Galesburg were here for a couple of days last week with a nice line of fall clothing and gents' furnishing goods.

Mrs. William Drennin and son Andrew returned to Galesburg Thursday afternoon after a short visit here.

Miss Lucille Doubet went to Galesburg last Thursday.

Miss Maude Bennett was a Galesburg passenger last Thursday.

C. O. Smith has moved into the J. D. Doubet house north of town and will work for Mr. Doubet.

Work men are busy in the west end of town getting ready to lay a cement walk west from C. A. Zenor's corner.

The Williamsfield band gave the last open-air concert of the season last Saturday night.

Mrs. Meegan and daughter of Princeville arrived Thursday for a visit here.

Mrs. Gyre, who has been visiting her sister Mrs. L. W. Gray, for some time, has gone to Toulon for a visit.

Ed Welsh of Galesburg visited over Sunday with home folks here.

W. S. Willard received a carload of furniture this week and is busy unpacking it and arranging it for his furniture sale September 28th to the 30th.

Rev. Warner preached his last sermon here last Sunday and with his family left Monday morning for an overland drive to his new charge at Hanna City. Their household goods were loaded in a car and shipped from here Saturday.

Reverend Mr. McCormick, the new pastor, comes from near Rock Island and will arrive sometime this week and began his work next Sunday.

Wallace Clough's House is receiving a coat of fresh paint at the hands of A. E. Nordlind.

Mrs. Thomas Johnson of Brimfield visited for a short time Monday with a W. G. Johnson.

Mrs. Hurd was a Galesburg visitor Monday.

H. J. Bennett's team indulged in a short but spirited runaway last Saturday. They were left standing back of the meat market and, becoming frightened, ran south to the elevator, where the wagon was overturned and one horse fell down. The top was torn off the wagon, but neither horse was hurt.

Mrs. Wallace Clough returned on Tuesday from a visit in Chillicothe.

Mrs. J. R. Gale returned from Galesburg Monday, where she has been with Mr. Gale, who underwent an operation at the hospital a few days ago. Mr. Gale is reported to be getting along nicely.

Miss Cleo Tucker of Brimfield is visiting for a few days with Miss Martha Cole.

Hugh Hendricks of Chicago arrived Tuesday afternoon for a few days' visit with his brother, Dr. H. C. Hendricks.
