North Woods: Married 27th, 1881, by Rev. Stahl, at the home of the bride, Mr. Jas. A. Pitman, of Henderson, to Miss Allie Mathers of North Henderson. A reception was given at the home of the groom, the following day, and neither time nor care was spared to make the feast a rich one, and to make those who were so fortunate as to be the guests, feel cheerful and happy.  After all had partaken of the delicious repast (prepared by Miss Nannie and her good mother) which our pen cannot do justice in describing, the Reverend Brother's scalp was taken in "true savage style"! Mr. and Mrs. Pitman (who have left the state of single blessedness) now enter upon life's broad stream with the heartiest congratulations of their many friends, and with the sincerest wishes that they may find in the journey of life they have undertaken together, enough of substantial enjoyment to make the sorrows that are inevitable the merest trifles.

Marriage
(Galesburg's Weekly Republican-Register, Saturday, Sep. 10, 1887,  submitted by Janine Crandell)

A notable event in colored society occurring Wednesday evening was the wedding of Mr. A. L. Richardson and Miss Addie Gash, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson Gash, at the home of the bride's parents on the corner of First and Henderson streets.  Long before the time of the ceremony the pleasant rooms were filled with happy colored people. The ceremony was performed at half past seven o'clock by Rev. Mr. Laws, pastor of the A. M. E. church, in an imposing manner.  The bride was attired in a handsome brown silk dress.  Both the bridesmaid and she were adorned with natural flowers.  The best man was Mr. Andy Johnson, who played his part to perfection.  The bridesmaid was Miss Cora Love. The quartette appeared to good advantage.  The knot tied, congratulations were showered upon the young couple. There were a host of presents, silverware, glass ware, things to wear, pretty, useful, to enumerate which would tire the reader. As usual,  nice refreshments were served. Mr. Richardson and his bride for the present at least will live at the home of his father.

At the residence of the bride's mother, near Gilson, Ill., on Dec. 20, 1893, by Rev. B. C. Dennis, Mr. George Dennis Russell and Miss Emma Elizabeth Kellar, all of Knox county, Ill.
One of the enjoyable events of the season was the above marriage. A few friends, mostly relatives, witnessed the ceremony, which made them man and wife. Mrs. Olive Lacy executed the wedding march while the bride and groom appeared supported by Mr. Walter Wyman and Miss Retta Kellar.
The rich repast prepared by the generous hostess (an adept in such work) was duly discussed by the company.
The reception on Thursday, the 21st, at the residence of Mr. David Russell, father of the groom, was no less complete.
The valuable presents brought in gave convincing proof of the esteem in which the young couple are held by those who know them best.  The wish of all the company was that the hopes and dreams of the happy couple may be fully realized.
