Page #28
The
church was filled with the Reedville friends and Lucile's family and
the extra people my folks had with them aroused no suspicion.
Jean (McClean) was an accomplished musician so our wedding
song was beautiful. Then Rev. Pratt stepped up
in front and Glenn and I opened the swinging doors from the
vestibule and walked down the short aisle. Glenn in a dark suit.
I also wore a dark blue suit and hat.
Gray slippers which matched the lining of the hat and carried a dark
blue purse made from silk ribbon.
Rev.
Pratt pronounced us man and wife. We kissed each
other, then turned and walked back down the aisle, through the two
doors and into his Ford roadster on our way to the
Roosevelt
hotel, where Glenn had made reservations for two nights.
The
morning of the 12th Glenn awoke me by getting snow off the window
ledge and putting it on my face. Part of the day
was filled with preparing to leave the following morning.
He took me to my home to pack and he went to his.
Our
wedding gift from my parents was a chest of silverware, with service
for six, besides other gifts from relatives and friends.
Mother helped me pack. Glenn put my trunk
in the back of the roadster with his things. We
had our meals at restaurants as there was no invitation to eat with
either family. Glenn understood why my Father
resented him and I knew why his Mother was displeased with me.
We were
very much in love and now we had each other for ever and ever. No
gloom could penetrate our happiness."
