Uncle Sam Lounsberry
Page 28

When one prepares the history of Oakford, the Lounsberry family finds a reserved
section. This family was living on the site of Oakford, years before it was founded.
In fact, when Lincoln surveyed the Morgan County line road (later Cass County)
via Miller's Ferry, he passed within a few hundred feet of the Lounsberry home.
Uncle Sammy was eleven years old then, no doubt, had a good acquaintance
with this young surveyor.
As a young man, he worked when he had spare time, in the mill at Robinson Mill, Illinois.
When he married he first built a log cabin and shortly after Oakford was
founded, erected a fine farm home which was located where George Eilks home
stands today.
