One must make mention of the early carpenters of Oakford, because many of
the homes throughout the town were built by a group of men, names such as Jackson, Spilly, Ledbetter and Altig. Spilly built the Oakford Hotel and during the finishing of
the roof, saw the shooting of John Hare take place. (Hare was the town saloon keeper.) The above picture is of Spilly's son Harry, who built several of the homes
in Oakford. At the time they were constructing the Harry Higginbotham home of today. pictured left to right are Bob Meyers, Rube Winters, Harry Spilly, and Jack
Ishmael.
