W. J. Carroll

W. J. "Bill" Carroll, who has had the distinction of being Menard County's
oldest resident for a number of years, will pass another milestone on Friday,
March 12 when he will observe his one hundred and fourth birthday. The
picture shown here was taken on his birthday last year.
Mr. Carroll has made his home at Sunny Acres since 1963 and turned the first
shovel of earth when ground was broken for the nursing home several years ago.
He enjoys good health but is confined to a wheel chair most of the time.
The 104-year-old man was born at Lawndale March 12, 1867, but has lived in the
Petersburg area most of his life. He was engaged in farming for many years
and lived on a farm north of Petersburg until his retirement in 1947. His
wife, the former Miss Matilda Dallman, died shortly after the couple moved to
Petersburg.
No special observance Mr. Carroll's birthday is being planned, but his friends
will be welcomed if they call on him during the day.
