John Tyler Hardwick

John Tyler Hardwick (1865-1925) was born to Franklin M. and Sarah J. McGuire Hardwick, on September 25, 1865, near Columbia, Adair County, Kentucky. He married Martha Ann Rakes/Raikes, daughter of John Thomas and Martha Ann Helm Rakes/Raikes in Tallula, Menard County, Illinois, on January 4, 1887, apparently not long after moving to Illinois. In 1900, John and Martha lived on a farm west of Indian Point, Illinois. They had two daughters: Bessie Thomas (1887), who married William Michael Shannon, and Lillian Clarinda (1898), who married George W. Adlington. In early years John had been a blacksmith, but an injury caused permanent damage to his arm, ending his smithing career. He died at age 60 in 1925 from pneumonia and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, Illinois.
