Harriett Catherine Lake, daughter of Bayliss and Eliza Glascock Lake, was born October 22, 1845 in Fancy Creek Township, Sangamon County, Illinois, and died June 9, 1927 at the home of her son, Charles Brittin, near Cantrall, aged 81 years, 7 months, and 17 days.

She was married to Evans E. Brittin and to this union were born seven children: five sons, Charles M. Brittin, Arthur T. Brittin, Fred Brittin, Edward B. Brittin, and Roy Brittin; and two daughters, Minnie Eleanor Brittin and Francis Brittin.

Her husband and all but three of her children have preceded her in death. There are six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She belonged to a family of ten children, six of whom lived to be over eighty years of age.

In her early youth she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Her father came to Illinois in the year of 1827, just one hundred years before the last of his children died.
