CLAIR E. CANTERBURY, 77, CANTRALL AREA RESIDENT, DIED AT 5:30 P.M. TUESDAY
Clair E. Canterbury, 77, a resident of the Cantrall rural area since five
years of age and a lifelong farmer and farm seed producer, died at St. John's Hospital after a lingering illness.
He was a son of the late John Henry and Elizabeth Canterbury.
He was a member of the Cantrall Christian Church, Springfield Rotary Club,
Van Meter Lodge No. 762 AF&AM, Springfield Consistory, Knights Templar, Ansar Shrine, and a former president of the Illinois Crop Improvement Association.
Surviving are his widow, Margie; three sons, Lehman and Wayne, both of
Cantrall, and Malcolm of Ottawa; three daughters, Mrs. Alice Young of Athens, Mrs. Lois Rapp of Park Ridge, and Mrs. Jean Schmidt of Cantrall; one brother, J. Harold Canterbury of Cantrall; 15 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Mott and Son Funeral Home,
Athens, with Rev. George Pritchard in charge.
Burial was made in Indian Point Cemetery.
