At her residence near Barry, Clay Co., Missouri, Thursday morning about 8 o'clock, Jan. 23, 1879, Mrs. Margaret L. Barnes, aged 59 years, 6 months 26 days. Deceased was born in Fleming county, State of Kentucky, June 27th, 1819. Her maiden name was Margaret L. Matthews. She was a sister of Mrs. Angeline Walker, who died a few days ago in this place, and was noted in the DEMOCRAT of a recent date. Mrs. Barnes was married to Mr. A. D. Barnes at her home in Kentucky, April 30, 1840. Afterwards, she and her husband emigrated in Missouri in 1850, where she resided till her death. She leaves surviving her a husband and eight children, to mourn her loss. It is said by those who knew her that her character for Christian rectitude and consistency was of the highest order. In all her acts and aspirations she manifested the devotion of a true Christian woman. She was kind and considerate, charitable, benevolent and devoted. When the summons of death came, and at the last moment, she was perfectly prepared and resigned to the will of God.
Let those who survive her, emulate her Christian character and virtues that when they are called to pass beyond the river they may see by faith their way as clearly as did Mrs. Margaret L. Barnes.
