James Basso, a well known and highly respected citizen of Athens, died at the home of his son, Joseph in Gillespie, Sunday afternoon, October 20, 1929, at 4:30 o'clock, following a stroke of paralysis on the preceding Wednesday. He was aged 83 years 4 months and 2 days. His wife preceded him in death about five years ago.

He is survived by six sons, Joe of Gillespie; Samuel and Thomas of Springfield; John, Henry and Mike of this city and two brothers, Dominik of Henderson and Joe of Chicago. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The remains were brought to home of his son, John Basso, in this city last Sunday night, and funeral services were held at the Holy Family church, Tuesday morning, October 22, at 9:30 o'clock, Rev. Father Carey officiating. Interment was made in the Hall cemetery.
