Died Monday At Daughters Home,
Funeral Services Held Wednesday
Mrs. Elizabeth Ellen Carter died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Claude Bradley, near Tice Monday, February 12 at the age of seventy four years.

Mrs. Carter, whose maiden name was Dowell, was born in Wayne county, Kentucky, May 29, 1848. She was the daughter of William and Rebecca Dowell. While yet a little girl, she came with her parents to Illinois, and settled in Menard county where she spent the remainder of her life.

At the age of nineteen, she was united in marriage with William Carter. To this union were born ten children, three of who preceded her in death. Those living are Charles, of Athens, Illinois, Bolin, of Bloomington, Mrs. Flora Hurst of Sweetwater, Mrs. Frances Murphy of Bakersfield, Calif., William and Isom of Petersburg and Mrs. Rebecca Bradley of Tice. Mrs. Carter had made her home with Mrs. Bradley for the past six years. Mr. Carter preceded Mrs. Carter in death by about fifteen years. Besides the children, she is survived by one brother, Charles Dowell of Cabel, Ky, and one sister, Mrs. Lear Graham living in Maybank, Texas.

Mrs. Carter united with the Baptist church in early girlhood, before coming to Illinois, and was always a faithful member of that church. Funeral services were held at the late residence Wednesday morning, February 14 at 9 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Edwin S. Priest, pastor of the Christian church at Petersburg. The remains were interred in the White cemetery.
