Athens Free Press, Dec. 27, 1907
Last Wednesday morning at 7:30 o'clock at his home in North Athens occurred the death of Abel Cresey, one of the oldest residents of this city. He had been in poor health for some time but the family were not expecting his death to occur so suddenly.
Abel Cresey was born in Indiana on the 7th day of October 1823. On November 6, 1848 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Ann Dias, a native of Crab Orchard, Kentucky, at Terre Haute, Indiana. To this union three children were born; two of whom have passed to the great beyond.
In 1852 he moved to Iowa where he resided about two years, coming to this county in 1854 where he has since resided with the exception of a short time in Missouri.
He had passed the allotted age of three score and ten by several years. At the time of his death he was 84 years 2 months and 20 days of age. He is survived by one son, A.B. Cresey who resides at home.
Funeral services will be held at the home this (Friday) morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. Chas. F. McKown officiating. Interment in South cemetery.
