Death of Mrs. Bertie Evans.
Died, at her home in Petersburg, Monday, October 14, 1907. Mrs. Bettie Elizabeth Rollins Evans, age 57 years and 2 months. The funeral services were conducted by Elder W.M. Groves at her late residence on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Interment at Oakland cemetery.

Bettie Rollins was born a slave in Boydton, Va., Aug., 15, 1856, and there grew to womanhood. She was married to Richmond Evans in 1865. To them were born eight children, only one, Nannie May, survives. Her late husband died six years ago. Their oldest child, John, was the first colored child born in Petersburg.

For the past year Mrs. Evans has been a great suffer (sic) and death came a welcome messenger.
