REV. CHARLES EVANS
The death of Rev. Charles Evans, for many years a well known minister and evangelist of the Christian church, occurred last Saturday morning, February 1, 1930, at the Jacksonville hospital at the age of 71 years.
Deceased was born in Bement, Illinois, May 15, 1858. He served as minister and evangelist in several cities of Illinois and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He was engaged in evangelistic work for many years in Illinois and was instrumental in building many churches, several of them in Illinois.
He was engaged in the life insurance for some years in which he had an enviable reputation record. He left the insurance to re-enter the ministry having held his last pulpit in Ancona, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anna Hale Evans of this city; and two sons, Robert and Miller Evans both of Cleveland, Ohio. His first wife, Mrs. Jennie Miller Evans, died in 1903 in Portland, Oregon.
His two sons and their wives, Johannah and Ida arrived here Sunday night from Cleveland, Ohio.
Funeral services were held at the family residence in this city, Tuesday morning, February 4, at 10 o'clock, Rev. Lester R. Gerber of the Christian church officiating. The services were under the auspices of Van Meter Lodge of A.F. & A.M.
Interment was made in the cemetery at Bement.
