Jacob Nathan Hill, son of William and Rhoda Baker Hill, was born about one mile east of Oakford, Menard County, Illinois, May 28, 1852 and died April 26, 1916, at his home at the age of 63 years, 10 months and 28 days. He was united in marriage with Josephine Cooper, October 13, 1879. To this union thirteen children were born. His companion and the following children survive him to mourn their loss; Mrs. Laura Belle Hinrichs of Newmansville, Leslie Allen, Cora Rosetta, Harry P, Effie E, Jessie R, Viola C and Fannie C Hill, also four brothers, Charles and Samuel Hill of Oakford, Silas Hill of Peoria, and Joseph Hill of Canton; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Bodine of Peoria.

He sought the Lord and found Him about forty-three years ago, at the New Hope church, and lived a consistent Christian life to the end. He was blessed in living to see all his children who have reached the age of accountability give their hearts to the Lord, and we can truly say of him :Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord; yea, saith the Spirit, they shall rest from their labors and their works do follow after them."

Funeral services were held at New Hope church Friday morning, April 28, 1916. Elder J W Rhodes of Jacksonville officiating. Interment in Pontiac cemetery, Cass County.
