Nathan Martin, Former City Employee, Dies
Nathan Martin, 73, of 1119 Peoria street, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday [Sept. 14, 1955] in Pekin Public hospital after an illness of several years.

He was born Dec. 4, 1880 in Petersburg, Ill., a son of John and Rachel Kenney Martin. He was married to Henrietta M. Hinson in Alberta, Canada, on June 1, 1919.

A resident of Pekin for 20 years, Mr. Martin was employed at Caterpillar Tractor company until he retired at the age of 65 years. He later worked for the city until 1949. He was a veteran of World War I, having served with the Canadian army.

Surviving are his widow of Pekin; four daughters, Mrs. Iola Cooling, Green Valley; Mrs. Sylvia Baer and Mrs. Estelle Van Dyke, both of Peoria; and Mrs. Lolabelle Patilla, Takoma, Wash., four sons, Thomas A. Martin, Pekin; and John E., Roland C. and Allen Martin, all at home.

Also surviving are a brother, Calvin Martin of Iowa; and 20 grandchildren.

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by two sons, who died while in the service of their country; and a daughter, who died in infancy.

His body was taken to the Preston Funeral home where friends may call Friday.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Preston Funeral chapel. Burial will be in Lake View cemetery.
