Evelyn Snell was born near Williamsburg, Ohio, March 25, 1842, and died April 15, 1917, aged 75 years and 16 days. She was the eldest daughter of William and Margaret Moorhead and lived with her parents until she was 20 years of age, at which time she came to LaSalle Co., Illinois. On June 17, 1872, she was united in marriage to Arphad Snell who survives her. To this union were born three daughters, one dying in infancy, one Mrs. Nellie Balster, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. Molly Hartley of Petersburg. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Sam Conover and Mrs. Oscar Jones, both of Hamilton, Ohio, and two brothers, James Moorhead of South Dakota, and Ira Moorhead of Petersburg. She was a woman of many sterling qualities and was held in the highest respect by the community in which she lives. She became a member of the United Brethren church in her youth and remained a consistent member of that church through life.
