The death of Charles Webb of Springfield occurred at St. John's hospital, Friday evening, July 4, 1919, at 10:15 o'clock, after an illness of many weeks.
Deceased was for many years a resident of this city and was for a long time engaged in the livery business. He was a man of sterling character, upright and honest in all his business transactions. He was ever ready to do a favor to everyone.
During his long residence in our city he gained many friends whose sympathy goes out to the bereaved family in their hour of sadness.
Charles Webb, son of Mr. And Mrs. Robert Webb, Sr., was born in New Athens, Ohio, July 6, 1853. When a young man he came with his parents to Illinois where he has since made his home. At the time of his death he was aged 55 years, 11 months and 29 days.
On December 6, 1887 he was united in marriage to Miss Laura Doom.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Louis, one daughter, Mattie, of Springfield, one brother, Robert Webb, Jr., of this city, three sisters, Mrs. J. T. Campbell, Mrs. Charles Stone, both of Athens, and Mrs. Kate Hamilton of Bay City, Michigan, two grandchildren, two half brothers and three half sisters besides a large number of friends.
The remains were brought to this city last Saturday evening and taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. J. T. Campbell where funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, July 6, at 2:30 o'clock - the fifty-sixth birthday of the deceased. Rev. C. F. M'Kown officiated. Interment was made in Hall cemetery.
